Royal Icing blanket

I fell in love with the colors for this blanket when I saw them on the Deramores website. Deramores is a UK based yarn distributor that I ordered most of my DK yarn from.  Very few places here in the US (at least around me) offer a decent selection of DK yarn.  And if they do, its very expensive and very few colors.

Deramores is very reasonably priced and offers lots of selection on these yarns.  Plus, when I spend $50, they offer free shipping!  I usually get the shipment within 10 days of ordering the yarn, too, which is a big plus since it's coming from the UK.

Deramores recently came out with their own yarn line, so naturally I had to try it!  I fell in love with these colors when they placed them all in a color pack.  I didn't buy the color pack itself, but individually because the pack was specifically for another project and I didn't need as much yarn as they wanted to sell me.

The colors are from the Deramores Studeio DK line and they are fuschia, frost, blue velvet and peony.  I had this pattern in my queue for a long time, waiting for the perfect yarn to use it on and I had finally found some.  The pattern is from The Felted Button and it's called Royal Icing.  It's a paid pattern, but her patterns are worth the small price she charges for them. They are very detailed and have lots of pictures in them.  I am never disappointed with any of her patterns that I have bought and/or tried.

For this particular blanket, I used about 1.5 balls of each color to complete the blanket.  I had to get a third ball of the fuschia for the boarder, but I barely used any of it.  I don't remember if I used her boarder pattern or not, but I did (I think) 6 rows of hdc's followed by a crab stitch for the last row.

I wish I could tell you what the finished size is, but I don't remember.  Maybe one day I'll update this post with the finished size.  I used a 4.5mm hook for the foundation chain, a 4mm hook for the body of the blanket, and a 3.75mm for the boarder.  I do this smaller hook progression on all of my blankets and it works really well for my tension.

Little Mermaid inspired blanket

I had these colors that got thrown together and I kept looking at them thinking that they reminded me of something.  Then it finally hit me.  The Little Mermaid.

I have had these colors sitting in the garage for about a year now, just waiting for me to make something out of them.  I was conflicted though since I didn't have a whole lot of any of the colors so I had to be careful with what I made.  I wanted to make a ripple blanket with them, but there wouldn't be enough for that.

Then I came across a picture on Instagram of this pattern.  I've made this pattern before and I distinctly remember not liking it, but it seemed like the only thing that was going to accommodate a blanket with what little yarn I had.

Once again, I wish I could tell you what yarns these are specifically, but I can't with certainty. The first color, the reddish one, is a Scheepjes Color Crafter color. The teal and purple, I believe, are Stylecraft Special DK in aspen and something.  And the pink is Stylecraft Life in ...

Hopefully that helps! lol.

I used a 4mm hook throughout and worked off the free pattern by Celeste Young.  It came out to a cute 36" across from point to point.  I worked this one up very quickly for me and finished it within a couple days.  I'm very happy with it and I hope that someone else will be just as happy with it.

This is now listed on my Etsy account (CourtsCraftsandMore).  Check it out!

Deadpool Blanket

I started this blanket a long time ago...just under a year ago!  I wanted to make something for my fiancée's birthday that he would actually use and this is what I came up with.  His favorite comic book character is Deadpool and, at the time I was looking, the c2c graphgans were all the rage.

I had never even attempted a graphgan, let alone a c2c graphgan.  I had made a regular c2c blanket before but that was it.  I found the graph on Pinterest.  It was super easy to find.

Most of the yarn I used was Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn, but I couldn't tell you what the color titles are.  I used a 5.5mm hook throughout. It came out to around 45" square.  It took forever to finish because I was trying to only work on it when he wasn't home, then we moved, then I lost interest.  It took a lot of work and lots of color changes, especially in the face area.

I finally finished it right after Christmas and he was very excited to get it.  It now sits on our couch and gets very good use.

It's been a while...

It's been a while. I know.

I've been away just because I was crocheting a lot of different projects and not really finishing many of them.  Then Christmas came and now that that is done, I can get back to crocheting what I want to.  And it's really hard these days to get a lot of crochet time in.  Ivy is now 16 months and very active.  When she's awake, my attention is on her and that does not leave me a lot of time to crochet.  Plus, working and planning a wedding to help either.  So bear with me.  I still post on Instagram a lot, I just haven't been keeping up on blogging about all that goes on.

Over the next couple days, I should be able to start posting about a few of the things that I'm either working on and/or finishing up so look out for that!

Thanks for keeping up with me!

Girly Sunburst Square Blanket

I started this blanket a while ago and then it got forgotten about.  But I pulled it out about a month ago and vowed to finish it!

I do love how the pattern works up, but it is time consuming, as are all patchwork blankets.  The pattern is the Sunburst Square by Priscilla Hewitt.  You can find it for free on Ravelry.

I found this yarn at Hobby Lobby. It's a rather thin yarn, but works up beautifully and they have lots of colors.  It's Baby Bee Sweet Delight yarn in pooltime, white, lil princess, boo pink, sugarplum and grape jelly.

I used a 4.0mm hook throughout the blanket.  It's made up of 48 squares total and measuring 4.5" each.  With the border, the blanket measures 30"x40"

The border is a camel stitch in the pink and white and the scalloped edge is from LittleDoveCrochet, which she has posted for free on her blog.

I really enjoy the look of the blanket, but it'll be a while before I try another!

Until next time!

Rainbow Blanket

I usually have anywhere from 8-10 WIPs in my stash because I have crochet ADHD so bad.  I will work on a project for a couple days and then get bored and move onto the next.  Well, lately, I have actually been finishing up so many projects because they are all getting to the point of being done.

That being said, here is one that I finished relatively quickly.  I started this blanket back in May with the intention of using the yarn for another blanket, but I started the other one and just didn't like the pattern that much.

So became this blanket.  I learned about this stitch from one of my favorite IGer's, @littledovecrochet.  If you have an Instagram and love looking at crochet items, she is fantastic.

This is the Moss stitch, or linen stich, or granite stich.  There are so many names for the stitch.  It's a basic sc, ch 1, sc, over and over again.  Very simple, but it creates this fantastic look and feel.  It is also a very stretchy stich.  I have a hard time keeping the blanket in a rectangle because when I pick it up, it just wants to stretch.

I used my trusted Clover Amour 5.5mm hook for the body of the blanket and then a 5.0mm for the border.

The border is three rows of the moss stitch and then a final row of a crab stitch in a 5.0 mm hook.  I've found over the years that I work with three different hook sizes when I work on a blanket.  The starting chain is a hook up from what I will be using for the body, the body hook, and then I work the border in a hook size down.  So, I used a 6.0mm for the starting chain, a 5.5mm for the body, and a 5.0mm for the border. I don't know why it works, but it makes the blankets come out much more even.

Yarns used were all Caron Simply Soft.  I don't have the actual names anywhere, but they are easily found in your local yarn shop.  I got all mine at Joann's when they had a sale on them.  I didn't even use a full skein of each color, so it looks like another rainbow something will be in the works. The blanket turned out to be 35"x 54" and turned out bigger than I anticipated.  I'm so happy with it!

I'm so excited to be able to cuddle under this blanket this winter, but for now, it'll be nice and folded across the couch for me to admire.

Until next time!

Rectangular Granny Square

I started this blanket about 4 months ago and barely did anything with it.  It got shoved to the back of my mind and pushed way down on the project list.  I work nights at a hospital and there are some nights where it's super slow and every one of patients sleep and don't need a thing.  These are the nights where I crochet and I need something smaller to be able to work on.

Enter the forgotten baby blanket:

I used the basic granny square method, but I didn't want it square and a Pinterest search remedied that problem.

I used Big Twist Baby in elephant, tutu, aquarium and white.  The pink is a very baby pink, but it's not capturing appropriately against my dark wood table.

The border is just a basic shell stitch around. I wanted something simple since the blanket is so simple.

I'm very happy with how it came out and am excited for some baby to cuddle up to it someday.
